15 Days Until Christmas: DIY Sled Tree Ornament

It’s here! 15 days until our favorite holiday! We can’t wait to count down to Christmas and share some of Mocha, Petri and Melvin’s favorite traditions with you and your family.

Today, Melvin decided that he wanted to go sledding.1 Being a gerbil, he didn’t have a sled. A little creativity led Melvin to a couple popsicle sticks to create a sled for him that can double as a Christmas ornament for your tree.

You Will Need:
– 8 Popsicle Sticks
– Hot Glue
– Ribbon
– Paint (if you would like to colour your Popsicle sticks.

2Step 1:

OPTIONAL: If you are planning on painting your sled, you should do this before you put it together.

Cut one Popsicle stick in two pieces. Each piece should measure to be approximately 4cm.

Step 2:

Glue each of the smaller sticks to a larger stick. Leave some room on the side.

3Step 3:

Glue the next four sticks beside the longest stick. Leave a little bit of space between each one if you wish.

The middle three sticks should stick out further than the outside two.

Make sure that the last stick extends further than the shorter stick, like the first stick; there should be a small space (you’ll see why in the next step).

4Step 4:

In the spaces at each end, glue another Popsicle stick in a 90 degree angle from the bottom stick. This will be the bottom of the sled.

Step 5:

Glue a ribbon to the front side of the sled (this should be the side that the three middle sticks reach out further than the outside sticks). Glue a ribbon to the underside of each of the outside sticks.

Step 6: Hang on the tree, or if you’re a gerbil… GO SLEDDING!
